WAFCON Victory: Governor Uzodinma Gifts Imo-Born Super Falcons Stars ₦70 Million

 



In a celebratory move following Nigeria's triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has rewarded six Imo-born Super Falcons players and an assistant coach with a combined ₦70 million.

During a special reception at the Government House in Owerri, Governor Uzodinma presented ₦10 million each to the following standout players for their contributions to Nigeria’s success:

  • Chiamaka Nnadozie
  • Jennifer Echegini
  • Osinachi Ohale
  • Oluchi Oluehi
  • Chinwendu Ihezuo
  • Michelle Alozie

In addition, Assistant Coach Ann Chiejine, also an indigene of Imo State, received ₦10 million in recognition of her technical support to the national team.

Governor Uzodinma praised the athletes for not only bringing glory to the country but also for making Imo State proud on the continental stage.

“Your performance has put Imo State in the global spotlight. This reward is a token of appreciation from your state,” he said.

The Super Falcons recently clinched their 10th WAFCON title with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Morocco in the final, a win that has garnered accolades from across the nation.

The players were also honoured by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who gifted each player $100,000, a three-bedroom house, and conferred upon them the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

With these recognitions, the 2024 Super Falcons team is being celebrated not only as champions but also as symbols of national pride and female excellence in sports.
