The Adamawa State Government has honoured Super Falcons head coach, Justin Madugu, with a three-bedroom bungalow and a cash reward of ₦50 million in recognition of his outstanding leadership in guiding Nigeria to a historic 10th title at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The award was presented by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri during a special ceremony held on Friday, August 1, 2025, at the Government House in Yola.
Madugu, a native of Numan Local Government Area in Adamawa State, received glowing praise from the governor for his tactical brilliance and unyielding focus that led the national women’s team to continental triumph.
“It is a proud moment for us in Adamawa that one of our own has led Nigeria to victory on the continental stage,” Governor Fintiri said. “His technical intelligence and focus have brought honor not just to Nigeria, but to Adamawa State as well.”
In an emotional response, Coach Madugu thanked the government and people of Adamawa State for the gesture and recognition.
“I’m overwhelmed by what is happening today. I thank God and the government of Adamawa State for this recognition,” he said.
He went on to note that his appointment was more than just a job—it was a mission to challenge stereotypes.
“When I took up this role, I saw it as a challenge to prove that northerners, too, can lead at the highest levels. It was a personal mission to leave a legacy that will inspire respect for our state,” Madugu added.
His victory with the Super Falcons not only solidifies Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football but also highlights the growing inclusiveness and excellence emerging from Nigeria’s northern region.
