A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kebbi State has called on the public to assist in tracing the family of a four-year-old boy identified as Uzochukwu, who was reportedly rescued from kidnappers and is currently being housed at an orphanage in Birnin Kebbi.
According to the corps member, Uzochukwu was among several children recovered after security operatives apprehended suspected child traffickers. The suspects were arraigned in court, while the children were temporarily placed in a Muslim-based orphanage within the state capital.
During a visit to the orphanage, the corps member narrated that the boy, who speaks Igbo fluently, identified himself as Uzochukwu and stated that he previously attended St. Teresa Nursery and Primary School 33 Nmafam, though he was uncertain whether the school is located in Enugu or Onitsha. He further disclosed that he is in Nursery 2 and grew up in a village setting.
The corps member appealed to residents of Enugu, Onitsha, and surrounding communities, as well as anyone familiar with St. Teresa schools in the region, to help in reuniting the child with his biological family.
Efforts are ongoing to confirm the boy’s background and to establish contact with possible relatives. Meanwhile, concerned members of the public have been urged to share the information widely to aid Uzochukwu’s safe return to his family.
