GOOD NEWS!! Governor Raises Minimum Wage to ₦104,000, Doctors’ Pay Raised to ₦533,000

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has approved a new minimum wage of ₦104,000 for civil servants in the state, marking a significant upward review of workers’ salaries.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, during a meeting with the state’s labour force at the Government House, Owerri. In addition to the revised wage structure for civil servants, the governor revealed that medical doctors in the state civil service will now earn ₦533,000 as their monthly salary.

According to Governor Uzodimma, the wage increase was made possible by improved internally generated revenue (IGR) and higher allocations from the federal government. He explained that the new structure is aimed at stimulating Imo’s economy, improving workers’ welfare, and boosting productivity across the public service.

In a further show of commitment to the welfare of retirees, the governor disclosed that his administration has set aside ₦16 billion to clear outstanding gratuity arrears owed to pensioners in the state.

Uzodimma emphasized that the move reflects his administration’s dedication to not only reward the efforts of Imo workers but also ensure that the economic benefits trickle down to all sectors of society.

This landmark wage adjustment comes at a time when several states are grappling with the impact of subsidy removal, inflation, and rising cost of living, making Imo one of the first states in Nigeria to implement such a robust wage package.
