D’Tigress Beat Mali To Clinch Fifth Straight AfroBasket Title

Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has once again etched their name into the history books by clinching their fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title after a commanding 78-64 victory over Mali in the final.

The match, held on Saturday, saw Mali put up a strong challenge in the first quarter, leading 26-21. However, the resilient D’Tigress bounced back in the second quarter with a 20-15 edge, leveling the momentum of the game.

From the third quarter onward, it was all Nigeria. D’Tigress asserted their dominance with another 20-15 win before sealing their victory with a decisive 17-8 fourth quarter performance.

This triumph marks Nigeria’s seventh AfroBasket title overall, and more remarkably, their 29th consecutive win in the competition since 2015 — a streak that remains unbroken. No other African team has managed to win five titles back-to-back, making this an unprecedented feat.

The Nigerian women, with their skill, discipline, and cohesion, have maintained their stronghold on African women’s basketball, solidifying their status as queens of the court on the continent.

The win not only secures yet another trophy for the country but also reinforces the growing legacy of D’Tigress as a symbol of consistency, excellence, and national pride in the sporting arena.
