BREAKING!! SAD NEWS! One Of Recently Celebrated Nigerian Basketball Players Suddenly Dies During Training [PHOTOS]

The University of the Philippines (UP) community has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Nigerian basketball player, Israel Osamudiame Friday.

The 19-year-old athlete, who would have turned 20 on September 6, collapsed during a team practice session on Tuesday. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead despite efforts by medical personnel to resuscitate him.

Confirming the incident, Bo Perasol, Director of the UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development, described the tragedy as a huge loss for the university.

“UP is heartbroken to confirm that one of our newest recruits, Israel Osamudiame, collapsed during practice yesterday. He was immediately brought to a nearby hospital where, despite the efforts of medical personnel, he passed away,” Perasol said in a statement published by Filipino outlet Spin.ph.

Friday, a 6-foot-10 forward from Abuja, Nigeria, had only recently joined the UP Fighting Maroons after transferring from Centro Escolar University (CEU), where he starred for the Scorpions in the Universities and Colleges Athletic League (UCAL). He was due to serve a one-year residency before becoming eligible to compete in UAAP Season 89.

Witnesses reported that the player was actively involved in the workout session at the Varsity Training Centre in Diliman when he suddenly collapsed. Team therapists provided first aid before he was rushed to hospital.

The exact cause of death has yet to be determined as medical authorities continue examinations.

Mr. Perasol added that UP is in close contact with the player’s family and will provide full support during the difficult period, while also requesting privacy for his loved ones.

Israel Friday was widely regarded as one of the most promising young frontcourt talents in Philippine collegiate basketball, with his height, skill set, and athleticism making him a prized acquisition for the Fighting Maroons.
