BREAKING!! LG Chairman Suspended!

The Chairman of a Local Government Area in Niger State, Hon. Aminu Yakubu Ladan, has been suspended by the legislative council, following his decision to drag the state government and the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) to court.

Ladan recently filed a lawsuit seeking to halt the scheduled local government elections set for November 2025, claiming his tenure constitutionally spans four years, not the three years stipulated by the state.

In a swift response, eight out of ten councillors of the legislative council served  chairman of Chanchaga LGA a suspension notice dated July 28, 2025. The notice, which cited multiple breaches of the Niger State Local Government Law, leveled nine weighty allegations against the embattled chairman.

Allegations Against Ladan:

1. Misappropriation of council funds

2. Illegal allocation of market plots

3. Awarding contracts without legislative approval

4. Failure to organize statutory finance and planning meetings

5. Refusal to submit financial reports

6. Disregard for council invitations

7. Non-compliance by key directors under his leadership

8. Failure to present reports on Minna development funds

9. Running the council without adherence to due process

The legislative council demanded that Ladan submit a written response within five working days, warning that failure to do so would forfeit his right to defend himself.

Ladan’s decision to go to court and his suspension have stirred political tension in the area, with some observers seeing the move as a challenge to the authority of the state executive and electoral bodies.

The coming days will be critical in determining whether Hon. Ladan will fight back legally, seek political reconciliation, or step aside amidst the mounting pressure and allegations.
