The Yobe State Government has approved over ₦40 billion for critical infrastructure development and youth empowerment projects across the state, following a State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, in Damaturu.
Announcing the decision, the Commissioner for Information, Home Affairs, and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, said the approvals target various sectors including infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, transport, and youth employment.
Key highlights of the approved projects include:
- ₦1.7 billion for the construction of office complexes for five state government agencies
- ₦962.65 million for a dedicated office building for Yobe Investment Company Ltd
- Modern markets across LGAs:
- ₦2.7 billion for Machina
- ₦3 billion for Geidam
- ₦3.9 billion for completing the Potiskum Modern Market
- ₦6.1 billion for a Central Motor Park in Damaturu
- ₦248 million for remodeling Yobe Line Terminus
To support agriculture and food security, the council approved:
- ₦3.8 billion for dry season farming inputs
- ₦480 million for 490 solar-powered water pumps
- ₦1.3 billion for 1,412 solar water pumps
- ₦5.3 billion for NPK 20:10:10 fertilizer procurement
In the health sector, the government will invest:
- ₦1.4 billion for construction at health facilities and training institutions
- ₦1.23 billion for medical and lab equipment
- Absorption of 422 healthcare workers, including midwives and community health workers
On roads and transport:
- ₦1.25 billion for the 5km Daya-Fadawa road
- ₦4.38 billion for the 18.5km Mashio-Ngelzarma road
- ₦671 million for the 2.5km Nahuta-Ngojin road
- ₦5.3 billion for the Damaturu-Gambir road
In a major move to empower youths and create jobs, the council also approved:
- ₦442 million for 100 sets of complete barbershop equipment
- ₦233 million for 50 sets of hairdressing salon equipment
Commissioner Bego emphasized that these approvals demonstrate Governor Buni's commitment to delivering impactful governance, boosting livelihoods, and modernizing public infrastructure in Yobe State.
