BREAKING: FG to Remove Pockets From Police Uniforms

In a surprising and controversial move, the Federal Government has announced a new directive that all pockets will be removed from police uniforms nationwide. The policy, which is expected to take effect within the next few months, has sparked a wave of reactions across social media, public discourse, and within the police force itself.

According to government sources, the decision is aimed at curbing corruption, extortion, and unprofessional conduct among officers on duty. A senior official in the Ministry of Police Affairs explained that pockets on police uniforms had “unfortunately become tools for hiding illegal collections, bribes, or seized personal items,” adding that the move was both symbolic and practical in restoring accountability.

The announcement has generated mixed reactions from the public. Supporters hailed it as a bold step toward reform, arguing that the inability to conceal money or items would discourage extortion. Others dismissed it as a superficial approach that ignores deeper issues such as poor remuneration, lack of training, and the need for body cameras.

Within the police force, officers are also divided. Some expressed frustration, calling the move impractical and demeaning, as uniforms without pockets would deny them basic utility for carrying items like pens, notepads, or handcuffs. Others, however, believe the reform could help rebuild public trust in the force, which they see as more important than the inconvenience caused.

The pocketless uniform policy is set to roll out soon, and its success or failure may become a defining test of the government’s commitment to genuine police reform.

  1. May God help the Nigeria wear nicker Police Force, imagine Police wearing uniform without pockets. They will look like slaves standing. Maybe our leaders thought we are to go back to ancient police where they wear nicker, did they stop corruption? Because the present Policemen met them and they continue from where they stop. My opinion is the police authority should be bold to tell the president to increase police salary and remove them from CPS and send men with integrity after the corrupt ones

  2. WE ARE NOT AND WILL NEVER SUPPORT TO MAKE POLICE WEARS EMPTY POCKETS!
WHY? BE CAUSE WHERE ARE THEY PUT THEIR SALARIES, PHONES, PENS, JOTTERS? ETC......
THE GOVERNMENT KNOW WHERE THE PROBLEM IS. THE BIGGESTS IN BRIBING ARE NOT KEEPING MONEY IN THE POCKETS.

  3. It is very despicable that in Nigeria today where the elites ruin through their shameless corrupt practices, Police is their problems. A matured man dressed without pockets just for him not to collect bribe, what about the institutions these crops of elites have ruined just for their selfish end. I have seen and it's factual that Nigeria cannot move forward with these sets of people on board.
Illegalities thrive in also spheres of our lives. Education is no longer valuable, hardwork is thrown to the dogs, votes don't count again and all worthless sets of people in the corridors of power.
    There was a Country.

  4. Police without future. Where a man will serve his country for 35 years and be given 1.7 million naira as gratuity, a monthly stipend of #35,000 Whereas these rogues in Agbada will serve 8 years, even less, will be emptying the coffers of the State monthly for their worthless years in governance. What a shame.
