The Enugu State Government has announced a new date for the highly anticipated flag-off of its Free Fertilizer and Agricultural Inputs Distribution Programme. Initially scheduled to hold on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Akpawfu Farm Estate in Nkanu East Local Government Area, the event will now take place on Saturday, August 30, 2025, by 10:00 am at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu.
According to the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, Hon. Patrick Nwabueze Ubru, the change of venue and date was necessary to ensure a more effective and inclusive distribution process for farmers across the state.
Under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the programme will see the distribution of over 40,000 bags of fertilizers and other critical agricultural inputs across the 17 local government areas of Enugu State. The intervention is designed to boost farm productivity, improve crop yield, increase household incomes, and strengthen food security.
It will be recalled that in 2024, the state government distributed over 12,000 bags of fertilizers free of charge, a move that contributed significantly to bumper harvests recorded across farming communities. This year, the government has scaled up the intervention to further empower farmers and eliminate hunger in rural and urban areas.
Farmers are also encouraged to take advantage of tractor services for mechanised farming, as part of the administration’s broader efforts to modernise agriculture in the state.
The flag-off ceremony on Saturday will be personally performed by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu.
