Barely hours after the resignation of the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Aondona Dajoh, the newly appointed Acting Speaker, Hon. Mrs. Lami Danladi Lawrence, has convened an emergency sitting of the Assembly.
The development comes on the heels of Dajoh’s unexpected exit, announced in a handwritten letter shared via his Facebook page earlier on Sunday with the caption “Let there be peace.” His resignation, which he said was in the best interest of the state, created an immediate vacuum in the leadership of the Assembly.
Hon. Mrs. Lawrence, who steps in as the first female to preside over the House in acting capacity, is expected to steer deliberations during the emergency session, with lawmakers anticipated to address pressing legislative matters and possibly chart the next line of action regarding the Assembly’s leadership.
Details of the emergency sitting are still unfolding.
