APC Moves to Rebuild Structure in Enugu, Nwoye Tipped for Leadership Role

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Newtawe Yilwatda, has expressed concern over the decline of the party in Enugu State, describing its structure as weak and in need of urgent revitalization.

Yilwatda noted that the APC, once seen as a promising political platform in the state, has faced setbacks caused by internal disagreements, factionalism, and poor grassroots engagement. He said the party must reposition itself to regain public trust and become a strong contender in Enugu politics.

As part of the efforts to restore the party’s presence, Yilwatda has appealed to Dr. Barr. Ben Nwoye, former APC chairman in Enugu State and leader of the Progressive Group, to take a frontline role in rebuilding the party.

Nwoye, during his tenure as chairman, was known for promoting inclusivity and mobilizing support across different groups in the state. Party stakeholders say his leadership experience could help strengthen the APC’s structure, re-energize members, and expand its outreach at the grassroots level.

The APC leadership has also emphasized the need for the party in Enugu to address key developmental issues such as youth unemployment, infrastructure, and healthcare, while working to establish stronger coalitions with progressive groups to broaden its base.

According to Yilwatda, the reorganization of the party in Enugu is crucial to restoring its relevance ahead of future political contests.
