MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has flagged off a large-scale metering drive across Enugu State with the launch of its Mobile MAP (Meter Asset Provider) Prepaid Metering Programme, aimed at accelerating access to prepaid meters for electricity consumers.
In a statement released on Monday, the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Emeka Ezeh, disclosed that the mobile initiative is designed to fast-track metering for unmetered customers, starting on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, with the Abakpa and Ogui Districts as pilot locations.
According to Ezeh, the new programme will enable customers to obtain prepaid meters within 72 hours, a move aligned with the company's goal of reducing metering shortfalls, enhancing billing transparency, and empowering consumers to manage their electricity usage more efficiently.
“The Mobile MAP Metering Programme aligns with the company’s commitment to bridging the existing metering gap, improving transparency in billing, and empowering customers with more control over their electricity consumption,” he stated.
Ezeh noted that the rollout will take place in phases across MEDL district offices, ensuring wider reach and accessibility for all unmetered customers.
To benefit from the initiative, customers must present:
- A recent electricity bill
- A valid means of identification
Meter pricing under the programme is:
- Single-Phase Meter: ₦137,062.50
- Three-Phase Meter: ₦227,900.00
(Both prices inclusive of 7.5% VAT and subject to monthly review)
Payments are to be made strictly via Debit (ATM) cards—cash transactions will not be accepted, and no additional fees are required apart from the meter cost.
MainPower has issued a strong warning against any form of extortion, urging customers to report suspicious activities through its whistleblowing hotline: 08146026678.
“There are no extra or hidden charges involved in the process,” Ezeh emphasized. “We encourage residents in the selected districts to take advantage of this fast-tracked metering opportunity.”
While this mobile phase kicks off, MEDL clarified that the standard MAP metering process remains active for customers unable to participate in the mobile initiative.
“Our goal is to ensure more of our customers are metered and are able to manage their energy consumption,” Ezeh concluded.
