BREAKING!! Governor Suspends Commissioners

In a dramatic move, Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has announced the suspension of 25 commissioners and 62 other top government officials, including permanent secretaries, senior special assistants, and special assistants, for failing to attend a key state function.

The suspension was contained in a public service announcement signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Monday Uzor, on Monday, July 28, 2025.

According to the statement, the affected officials are to proceed on a one-month working suspension without pay for their absence at a government event attended by the governor. The directive also bars them from signing any official documents during the period, and all commissioners have been instructed to hand over to their respective permanent secretaries.

“The suspension takes immediate effect,” the statement read.

This move, which political observers say reflects Governor Nwifuru’s zero-tolerance approach to laxity and insubordination in governance, marks the largest single-day suspension of government appointees in the state’s recent history.
