The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has announced the dissolution of the Benue State Executive Council, effectively sacking all Commissioners with immediate effect.
The development was made public through a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, shortly after the conclusion of the 12th Executive Council Meeting of 2025.
In a major shakeup of the administration, Governor Alia also appointed a new Chief of Staff, Barr. Moses Atagher, a former two-term Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state. Atagher, who also served as the acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank, is expected to assume office immediately.
While expressing gratitude to the outgoing Commissioners for their two years of dedicated service, the Governor urged them to remain committed members of the party. He encouraged those who may not be reappointed to continue working with the system, adding that the dissolution was a way of creating opportunities for other capable individuals to contribute to the development of the state.
The dissolution affects only the Commissioners, with the Governor noting that apart from the Chief of Staff, no other appointments have been announced at this time.
Speaking on behalf of the sacked Commissioners, Barr. Bemsen Mnyim thanked Governor Alia for the opportunity to serve and described their time in office as a valuable learning experience.
All former Commissioners have been directed to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries of their respective ministries without delay.
