In a shocking development, suspected bandits have abducted 25 individuals believed to be cultists during an initiation ritual in a bush along the Jos-Bauchi road.
Eyewitnesses reported that the victims were in the middle of an initiation ceremony for new members when the heavily armed assailants stormed the scene and whisked them away into an unknown location. The incident, which occurred late Tuesday night, has left residents in shock and heightened fears of escalating insecurity in the region.
Security sources confirmed the abduction, adding that intelligence gathering is underway to ascertain the motive behind the attack and to locate the whereabouts of the victims.
“We are investigating the incident. It is unusual that cultists were the targets this time, but we are treating it with utmost urgency,” a senior police officer who spoke on condition of anonymity said.
The Plateau State Police Command is yet to release an official statement as of the time of filing this report.
This disturbing incident comes amid growing concerns over the rising wave of criminal activities along the Jos-Bauchi axis, including kidnappings, armed robbery, and cult-related violence.
