BREAKING: President Tinubu Extends Tenure of Customs Boss

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.

Adeniyi, who was originally scheduled to leave office on August 31, 2025, will now continue in his role until August 31, 2026. The extension was announced in a statement on Thursday, July 31, 2025, by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the decision was made to enable Mr. Adeniyi to consolidate key reforms within the Customs Service and to oversee the completion of major initiatives under the current administration. These include the modernisation of the NCS, full implementation of the National Single Window Project, and effective execution of Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.

President Tinubu praised Adeniyi for his leadership and unwavering commitment to national service. He expressed confidence that the extension would further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its core objectives of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and enhanced border security.

Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi was appointed Comptroller-General of the NCS in 2023.
