The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has ushered in a new era of leadership with the swearing-in of former Senate President David Mark as Interim National Chairman, and former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, as Interim National Secretary.
The official inauguration took place on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, during the party’s 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.
In his acceptance speech, Sen. Mark reaffirmed his commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and inclusive leadership, pledging to reserve 35% of leadership positions for women and ensure the active participation of youth under 40 years of age in party affairs. He also announced the establishment of a 50-member Policy Committee to review the party’s manifesto and initiate critical reforms across key national sectors.
"I assure you that under my leadership, we shall be committed to full democratic practices and principles that abhor imposition and special privileges," Mark declared. "Internal democracy, transparency, and accountability will be our mantra."
Outgoing National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, who handed over the reins, praised the party’s consistency and resilience in the face of external pressures and financial inducements meant to force a one-party system on Nigeria.
"ADC said no to dictatorship. We stood our ground for democracy," Nwosu said.
In a notable decision during the meeting, previously expelled presidential candidates were also reinstated, and the party resolved to dissolve former structures to make way for the new leadership to assume full responsibility moving forward.
