A Press Statement by Senator Kelvin Chizoba Chukwu
Senator Representing Enugu East Senatorial District
19th June, 2025
Senator Kelvin Chizoba Chukwu Strongly Condemns the Brutal Attack in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo LGA
I am deeply outraged and heartbroken by the horrific attacks that took place on Sunday, 16th June 2025, in Aguamede community, Eha-Amufu, in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Reports indicate that suspected Fulani herdsmen unleashed a brutal and inhumane assault, killing about ten innocent citizens, with some sources reporting even higher numbers of fatalities.
The victims, who were unarmed and defenseless, suffered gruesome machete wounds to their skulls and bodies — a level of savagery that must not be ignored or tolerated.
This attack is not just a tragedy for the affected families and community; it is a stain on our collective conscience and a grave threat to the peace and security of our senatorial district and state. Even more disturbing are allegations that a helicopter was seen hovering around the area shortly before the attack, suggesting a level of coordination and complicity that demands urgent and thorough investigation.
I unequivocally condemn this heinous act of violence and demand immediate action from all relevant security agencies. The perpetrators of this barbarity must be identified, apprehended, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Our people deserve to live in safety, not in fear.
Recall that I have previously made donations of security equipment to enhance the operations of security personnel and to boost the efforts of the local vigilante group in that area. However, much more needs to be done by all layers of government — Local, State, and Federal.
I hereby call on the Federal Government, the Inspector General of Police, the Chief of Army Staff, and the National Security Adviser to treat this incident with the seriousness it deserves. The lives of our citizens must not be treated as expendable.
Furthermore, I urge the Enugu State Government to swiftly deploy relief and support services to the affected community, while also enhancing local security measures to prevent further bloodshed.
Let it be clear: this is not the time for silence, and we will not be intimidated. I stand firmly with the people of Aguamede and the entire Eha-Amufu community during this painful time. Their grief is our grief, and their cry for justice will not go unheard.
Enough is enough.
Signed:
Sen. Kelvin Chizoba Chukwu, KSJ
Senator Representing Enugu East Senatorial Zone
Federal Republic of Nigeria
