...Award Dedicated to Governor Peter Mbah for Visionary Leadership in Health Sector
In a moment of pride for Enugu State, the Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Hon. John Ogbodo, has been conferred with the prestigious World Health Organisation (WHO) Award for Best Abuja Commitment Chairman. The award, presented by WHO representatives, recognizes Hon. Ogbodo’s outstanding commitment to health-friendly governance, consistent support for health initiatives, and active participation in state and WHO health programmes.
WHO’s Southeast Zonal Coordinator, Dr. Chukwumuanya Igboekwu, who led the team, stated that the award was based on a careful review of Hon. Ogbodo’s performance in promoting health at the grassroots level. “The Chairman’s enthusiasm, resource support, and strategic leadership in health interventions have consistently aligned with WHO and state health objectives,” he noted.
Also present at the event were Dr. Adaeze Ugwu, WHO Enugu State Coordinator; Dr. Ikechukwu Chidolue, WHO Enugu State IDSR Technical Assistant; Dr. Collins Okafor, Local Government Health Authority Secretary; Barr. Chidi Ani, Chief of Staff; and Hon. Nicholas Aninwagu, Supervisor for Health.
While receiving the award, Hon. Ogbodo dedicated it to His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Executive Governor of Enugu State, for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to revolutionizing healthcare across the state.
“This honour is truly for Governor Peter Mbah,” Ogbodo declared. “His massive investment in the health sector—constructing a 300-bed international specialist hospital and establishing 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres—has laid the foundation upon which we, at the local government level, are building. He inspires us to do more.”
The council chairman praised Governor Mbah’s administration for providing the political will and infrastructure that empower LGAs to deliver effective healthcare services, describing the governor as “a reformer whose leadership is changing the narrative in Enugu State.”
Hon. Ogbodo also acknowledged the collaboration and support from stakeholders and health workers in Nkanu West, but emphasized that the award is a reflection of Governor Mbah’s clear vision and enabling environment, which has catalyzed progress at all levels of governance.
“While this award bears my name, it is truly the result of a collective mission championed by Governor Mbah. It is a testimony to what can be achieved when leadership is people-centered, health-focused, and development-driven,” he concluded.
The recognition not only affirms the governor’s impact but also underscores the value of synergy between state and local governments in delivering transformative healthcare to the people.
