Communities in Bokkos and Mangu LGAs Mourn Victims Amid Renewed Calls for Security Intervention
Tragedy struck again in Plateau State on Thursday, June 20, 2025, as suspected herdsmen launched brutal attacks on two rural communities, leaving thirteen people dead, including children and elderly residents.
The assailants invaded Juwan village in Bokkos Local Government Area, where they killed ten persons in the dead of night. In a related attack the same day, three more people were murdered in Manja village, located in Mangu Local Government Area. Local sources confirmed that several other residents sustained injuries, while many families were forced to flee their homes in panic.
Eyewitnesses described the attackers as heavily armed and relentless, unleashing terror on unarmed villagers without warning. Survivors lamented the slow response of security agencies, noting that despite repeated attacks in recent months, protection remains inadequate.
Community leaders have since appealed to both state and federal governments to step in urgently to stem the wave of violence. They called for improved surveillance, the deployment of more security personnel, and a justice system that holds perpetrators accountable.
As the death toll mounts, the people of Plateau are once again left mourning loved ones, burying the dead, and living in fear of the next attack. The latest tragedy adds to the growing number of communal killings in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region, reigniting concerns over land disputes, ethnic tensions, and worsening insecurity in rural communities.
