The Member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chinedu Ogah, has awarded full scholarships to over 200 orphans across his constituency as part of his ongoing commitment to ensuring access to quality education for underprivileged children.
The gesture, facilitated through the Chinedu Ogah Foundation, also saw the lawmaker offsetting WAEC, NECO, and JAMB fees for more than 2,000 students, including inmates in correctional facilities within Ebonyi State.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony at Blessed Martins College of Nursing Science, Ohatekwe Amagu, Ikwo Local Government Area, Hon. Ogah emphasized that education remains the most powerful tool for empowerment, even for those behind bars. He noted that prison should not be a setback but an opportunity for rehabilitation and reintegration.
The scholarship covers tuition, boarding, feeding, and other academic expenses for beneficiaries, carefully selected from indigent families in the 20 wards of Ikwo and 11 wards of Ezza South LGAs.
In a broader empowerment effort, Hon. Ogah also flagged off the distribution of 5,000 bags of fertilizer and other farm inputs to rural farmers, underscoring the importance of timely support to guarantee a bumper harvest.
The lawmaker, who chairs the House Committee on Reformatory Institutions, credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru for creating the enabling environment for representatives to reach their constituents meaningfully. He called for continued support and prayers for the current administration, assuring the people of greater dividends of democracy.
Present at the ceremony, Mrs. Mary-Maudlin Nwifuru, wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, lauded Hon. Ogah’s people-oriented service, describing him as a visionary and compassionate leader. She expressed readiness through her BERWO Foundation (Better Health for Rural Women, Children and the Internally Displaced) to partner with the Chinedu Ogah Foundation, especially in promoting the education of the girl-child and uplifting vulnerable groups.
The State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, also commended Hon. Ogah for his consistency in grassroots empowerment. He affirmed that the party is monitoring the performance of its elected members and assured that those who distinguish themselves will be duly recognized.
Officials of WAEC, NECO, and JAMB in the state expressed appreciation to the lawmaker for his generous support, describing the gesture as timely and impactful.
