A fire outbreak along the railway line that passes through the bustling Ogbete Main Market in Enugu sparked panic among traders and passersby on Monday, June 2, 2025.
According to eyewitnesses, the blaze erupted around midday and spread swiftly along the railway corridor, sending thick plumes of black smoke into the sky and causing momentary chaos in the busy commercial hub.
“We just saw fire blazing along the rail line. People started shouting and running. Luckily, it didn’t enter the shops,” said an eyewitness who spoke to Daily Gazette on condition of anonymity.
Although the fire raged dangerously close to several market stalls, no injuries or casualties were reported as traders and emergency responders acted swiftly to prevent further escalation.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at the time of this report, as no official statement has yet been issued by emergency or security authorities.
