"Why You Should Not Travel Abroad With Your Igbo Wife" Ngozi Advices, Gives Reasons

A Nigerian woman named Ngozi has stirred controversy online after advising men living abroad to avoid marrying Igbo women and relocating them overseas without first signing a prenuptial agreement.

In a viral Facebook post, Ngozi wrote:
“Dear Abroad single guys, no marry Igbo woman carry am jakpa without a prenup! Immediately they cross, they become agwo ndu makachi!”
The term “agwo ndu makachi”, from the Igbo language, implies someone who becomes dangerously unrecognizable — akin to a “living snake.”

The post has triggered mixed reactions, with some commenters supporting the warning as a cautionary tale, while others criticized it as a damaging stereotype against Igbo women.

Legal experts and relationship counselors have also weighed in, noting the growing importance of prenuptial agreements in protecting assets, especially in marriages involving migration and cultural shifts.
