Nnamdi Ezechi, the member representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani federal constituency in the House of Representatives, has criticized the arrest of activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), VDM was arrested on May 2, 2025, on charges of cyberstalking Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) in Abuja. His arrest followed a visit to the bank to address alleged unauthorized deductions from his mother’s account.
Hon. Ezechi condemned the arrest as unprofessional and called on the Nigeria Police to handle such matters with professionalism.
“I, Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, vehemently condemn the arrest of Very Dark Man at the Guaranty Trust Bank, Abuja. Very Dark Man I know is not a criminal, and as such, cannot be arrested like a criminal,” he stated.
He urged the police to have invited VDM for questioning in a civilized manner, rather than what he described as a Gestapo-style operation.
The lawmaker also called for VDM’s immediate release, stressing the need for banks—especially GTB—to protect customer privacy and refrain from disclosing details of their clients’ personal activities.
He described VeryDarkMan as a human rights activist who consistently defends the rights of the oppressed and ordinary Nigerians.
