LG Council Boss Condemns Arson, By Unknown Gunmen, Vows Justice for Victims

In a strongly worded statement issued today, the Executive Chairman of Ivo Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Ajah Emmanuel Ogbonna, has condemned in the strongest terms the recent arson attack carried out by suspected unknown gunmen in Okigwe, Imo State, describing it as a senseless and destructive act that threatens the unity and economic stability of the region.

The attack, which took place in the community of Echiele, saw numerous heavy-duty trucks belonging to respected sons of the area and other parts of Igboland set ablaze, leaving trails of destruction and despair.

“In a tragic turn of events, the residents of Echiele woke up today to a devastating arson that not only destroyed property but also endangered lives,” Hon. Ogbonna stated. “This crime has shattered the very fabric of trust that binds us together as Igbo people, especially when such violence is incited by outsiders and executed by our own.”

Describing arson as a malicious act driven by hatred and disregard for human life, the council boss emphasized that its consequences stretch far beyond damaged property. “Families are left without livelihoods, communities become fractured, and fear takes hold,” he said.

Hon. Ogbonna vowed to stand with the victims of the attack and assured that efforts are underway to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice. “As a council chairman, I pledge to ensure that those responsible face the full force of the law. We must send a clear message that such behaviour is intolerable.”

He further called on the public, especially the youths, to denounce acts of violence and channel their energy towards developmental efforts that will uplift the region. “Let us focus on initiatives that promote peace, unity, and economic growth, rather than resorting to destruction.”

Offering words of comfort to the affected families and individuals, the chairman prayed for strength and divine support: “May God in heaven give you the fortitude to bear this loss and strengthen you to bounce back stronger in the shortest time, in Jesus name.”

Concluding his statement, Hon. Ajah Emmanuel Ogbonna reaffirmed his commitment to justice, peace, and the collective progress of the Igbo people, urging the public to remain vigilant and supportive of one another during these trying times.
