Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda, has declared Friday a public holiday to enable civil servants and residents to welcome President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is scheduled to visit the state for the commissioning of several landmark projects.
Governor Radda made the announcement on Thursday during the 2025 International Workers’ Day celebration at Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, organized by the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
“I am delighted to announce that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be in Katsina State tomorrow to inaugurate a number of significant projects we have accomplished over the past two years. Therefore, I declare tomorrow a work-free day to allow civil servants to participate in giving him a warm and respectful welcome,” the governor stated.
The announcement was met with enthusiasm from the state’s workforce, who viewed the public holiday as an opportunity to celebrate the administration’s developmental achievements.
In his Workers’ Day message themed “Reclaiming the Civic Space Amid Economic Hardship,” Governor Radda commended the resilience and dedication of Katsina’s workers despite prevailing economic challenges. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and ensuring the prompt payment of salaries and gratuities.
Meanwhile, NLC State Chairman, Comrade Hussaini Yanduna, urged the Federal Government to step up efforts in securing rural farming communities. He noted improvements in security and lauded the governor for addressing long-standing labour concerns, including the payment of outstanding pension arrears.
President Tinubu’s visit is expected to spotlight Katsina’s ongoing infrastructural transformation and reaffirm the federal government's support for subnational development initiatives.
