The Labour Party has announced the indefinite suspension of five National Assembly members and Abia State Governor Alex Otti for alleged anti-party activities.
The suspended lawmakers include:
- Senator Ireti Kingibe
- Senator Darlington Nwokocha
- Hon. Victor Afam Ogene
- Hon. Amobi Ogah
- Hon. Seyi Sowunmi
The decision follows the recommendations of a disciplinary panel constituted by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) during its May 2 sitting. A final review and ratification were made during the NEC meeting on May 7, according to a statement from the Julius Abure-led faction.
The suspension takes immediate effect, barring the affected individuals from representing the party in any capacity. Relevant bodies, including INEC, the National Assembly, and security agencies, have been officially notified.
The party also clarified that Nenadi Usman was not suspended as she is not a registered member of the Labour Party.
On coalition talks ahead of the 2027 elections, the party distanced itself, affirming it will contest independently, dismissing proponents of a merger as lacking leadership credibility.
The Labour Party further assured the public of its financial transparency, stating that all accounts have been audited and verified by INEC-appointed auditors.
