JUST IN: Enugu Native Doctor Arrested with Firearms, Ammunition in His Shrine

Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested a 24-year-old native doctor, Ejike Emmanuel Chinonso, and recovered a cache of firearms and ammunition from his shrine located at Ugwuochie-Iwollo, in Ezeagu Local Government Area.

The arrest, which took place on Wednesday, May 15, 2025, at about 10:30 a.m., was carried out by officers attached to the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad of the Command.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the operation followed a confessional statement by the suspect after his earlier arrest. A subsequent raid on his shrine led to the recovery of the following items:

  • One locally made pistol
  • One revolver pistol
  • One expended .38 special calibre ammunition
  • One live .38 special calibre ammunition
  • One live cartridge

SP Ndukwe further disclosed that the suspect confessed to being a member of the notorious Black Axe confraternity. He is expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for their diligence and commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements.

“I urge the operatives to sustain the momentum, ensuring that Enugu State remains uninhabitable for unrepentant criminals,” CP Giwa stated.

He also called on residents of the state to continue supporting the Police Command’s crime-fighting efforts through timely and useful information.
