A controversial blogger identified as Iruefi, who gained notoriety in 2023 for falsely alleging that former Minister and ex-Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN, had authored the Supreme Court judgment in favour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been apprehended at the airport.
Iruefi, who had been on the wanted list of the Department of State Services (DSS) following a formal report filed by Fashola in 2023, was arrested after fleeing the United Kingdom to Nigeria. Authorities revealed that he was also involved in defrauding some Nigerian citizens residing in the UK before his return.
The arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts to tackle misinformation and cyber-related crimes, particularly those targeting public officials and exploiting unsuspecting citizens.
Further investigations are expected to be conducted, with appropriate legal actions.
