The Kano State government has directed all 44 local government areas to contribute a combined total of ₦670 million to procure and refurbish vehicles for the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
This directive was detailed in a circular issued by the Ministry of Local Government and dated March 25, 2025. The memo, signed by Abubakar S. Dabo, Director of Local Government Inspection, instructed that ₦15,227,272.72 be deducted from each local government’s allocation under the State/Local Government Joint Account.
According to the document, the funds will be disbursed to Sottom Snergy Resources Ltd, the contractor selected for the job. The allocation covers both refurbishment of vintage vehicles and procurement of new ones for the Emirate Council.
Specifically, the spending includes:
- Refurbishment of two vintage vehicles:
- 1993 Fleetwood Cadillac Limousine — ₦25 million
- 1998 Daimler D5 420 — ₦25 million
- Procurement of four new vehicles:
- 2024 Toyota Hilux Pickup — ₦98 million
- 2024 Toyota Hiace Bus — ₦98 million
- 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser VXR (Full Option) — ₦268 million
- 2024 Prado SUV — ₦156 million
The Ministry also copied the Auditor General and Zonal Inspectors to ensure due process in the utilization of the funds and the execution of the contracts.
Sources say that the company has already been contacted to commence both procurement and refurbishment work.
This move has sparked discussions on fiscal priorities within the state, especially amid ongoing demands for grassroots development and essential services.
