A Nigerian woman has sparked controversy on social media after alleging that her younger brother’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result mysteriously changed overnight, raising concerns over the integrity of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) result system.
According to a post shared on her X (formerly Twitter) account, the woman claimed that her brother’s initial score was 157 when she checked the JAMB result portal. However, to their surprise, the score had increased to 257 when their mother rechecked it the following morning.
"I checked my brother’s result yesterday and it was 157, which was unbelievable. But my mom checked today, and it’s now 257. This is stupid," she wrote.
The post quickly gained traction online, fueling ongoing concerns among candidates and parents who have questioned the accuracy and transparency of this year’s UTME results.
While many social media users have called for clarity and a comprehensive review, JAMB is yet to issue an official response addressing the claim or similar reports circulating online.
The development follows past controversies surrounding UTME results, including the high-profile case of Mmesoma Ejikeme in 2023, which prompted widespread scrutiny and reforms in JAMB's result verification processes.
As of press time, the affected family has not revealed whether they have formally lodged a complaint with JAMB.
