In a major political shakeup, three members of the House of Representatives from Katsina State have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection, which occurred during Thursday’s plenary session, was formally announced by Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas. The lawmakers—Hon. Abdullahi Balarabe (Bakori/Danja Federal Constituency), Hon. Abubakar Albaba Aliyu (Batasari/Safana/Dan-Musa Federal Constituency), and Hon. Yusuf Majigiri (Mashi/Dutsi Federal Constituency)—cited the prolonged internal crisis within the PDP as the key reason for their exit.
In their respective notices, the lawmakers lamented the lack of cohesion and unresolved conflicts within the party, describing the situation as "protracted" and "without remedy." They expressed hope that the APC would offer a more stable political platform to deliver quality representation to their constituents.
The defection was witnessed by notable APC figures including Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State and the state chairman of the party, Muhammad Ali, who were present at the chamber to welcome the new members.
Their exit marks a further blow to the PDP amid growing internal divisions and is expected to strengthen the APC’s grip in the National Assembly.
