BREAKING: Former Minister, Oby Ezekwesili Gets New Appointment

Former Nigerian Minister of Education, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, has been appointed as an Advisor to the Club de Madrid, an esteemed international organization comprising democratic former Presidents and Prime Ministers from across the globe.

The announcement was made by Dr. Ezekwesili herself via a post on her official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. She described the Club as “the world’s largest forum of democratic former Presidents and Prime Ministers, who leverage their individual and collective leadership experience and global reach to strengthen inclusive democratic practice and improve the well-being of people around the world.”

Expressing her excitement, Dr. Ezekwesili noted her eagerness to contribute meaningfully in addressing complex global challenges and leadership gaps. She remarked that the world is facing a dangerous vacuum in leadership, which is delaying urgent responses to worsening global conditions.

“As our global context becomes even more complex, the leadership vacuum delays solutions to ‘global public Bads’,” she stated.

Her new role is expected to bolster global efforts in promoting democratic values and advancing people-centered leadership solutions in policy and governance.

Obidient Movement Debunks Report Linking Peter Obi as Atiku’s Running Mate

The Obidient Movement has strongly denied recent media reports claiming that Mr. Peter Obi, former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, has accepted a running mate position to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in a proposed political coalition for the 2027 general elections.

In a statement signed by Nana Kazaure, Director of Strategic Communication and Media for the Movement, the group labeled the story as false and entirely fabricated. They noted that, although there have been ongoing peaceful discussions with various stakeholders, no such offer has been made or accepted by Peter Obi.

The Movement emphasized that Mr. Obi’s participation in any coalition would only be centered on addressing Nigeria’s core issues such as bad governance, corruption, poverty, hunger, insecurity, and educational challenges.

“Without any risk of contradiction, we would like to reiterate that Mr Obi has maintained that his objective and his involvement in a coalition, is to provide a united front against and to tackle issues of bad governance, corruption, hunger, poverty, poor healthcare, out of school children and the myriad of other problems daily afflicting the people of Nigeria,” the statement read.

Furthermore, the group reaffirmed Peter Obi’s commitment to the Labour Party, clarifying that he remains a member and would personally communicate any change in affiliation should it occur in the future.

“At this point in time, Mr Peter Obi remains in the Labour party, and if ever this changes, he will make that announcement himself.”

They cautioned the media and the public against engaging in unfounded speculation and urged everyone to focus on the collective task of building a better Nigeria.

“The Obidient Movement would like to advise against sensationalism and speculation on these matters. At this difficult time, all Nigerians and the media, inclusive, should emphasise and contribute to building a better country.”
