The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the tragic deaths of four individuals following an attack by suspected cultists at a beer parlour in Makurdi, the state capital. The attack occurred on Sunday night at a beer parlour in the Akpehe area of Makurdi, leaving several others hospitalized.
SP Sewuese Anene, the command's spokesperson, confirmed the incident in a statement to journalists on Monday. The police have launched an investigation into the attack.
"Four persons were confirmed dead, while others are currently receiving treatment in the hospital," said Anene. Authorities have vowed to take firm action against the perpetrators of the violent act.
The attack is believed to be linked to cultism, a growing issue in the region. The police have warned criminals to desist from such acts, promising to bring all involved to justice.
This deadly attack adds to the ongoing concerns about the rise in cult-related violence across various states, with local authorities and residents calling for stronger measures to combat these criminal activities.
