SAD: Headmistress Slumps, Dies During Her Retirement Ceremony

What was meant to be a joyous occasion turned tragic for the family of Bello Dupe Omowumi, a retired headmistress, as she suddenly collapsed and died during her retirement ceremony.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the School for the Physically Challenged, Enu Odi, Ilesa, Osun State.

Bello, described as diligent and devoted by colleagues and students, had just completed a long and distinguished career in education. The event was intended to celebrate her decades of service, but it ended in grief and disbelief.

Witnesses say Bello arrived in high spirits, dancing into the venue with drummers, radiating joy. Moments after taking her seat at the high table with her husband, she reportedly began to show signs of distress.

“She looked tired, like she was gasping,” a guest said. Immediate efforts were made to assist her.

She was rushed to the Ijesaland Geriatric Centre and later referred to Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa, where she was declared dead on arrival.

The tragic news spread swiftly among attendees, leaving many too stunned to speak.
