Manchester United goalkeeper, André Onana, has been left out of the squad for today’s Premier League match against Newcastle United, following a difficult week. In his absence, Altay Bayındır is set to make his Premier League debut.
According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the decision was communicated to Onana by manager Rúben Amorim after United’s UEFA Europa League fixture against Olympique Lyon.
> “André Onana won’t even be on the bench for Man United today as Rúben Amorim wanted him to disconnect from football after a difficult week,” Romano reported on Sunday via X.
The manager reportedly advised the Cameroonian goalkeeper to take a brief break from football to mentally recharge.
Jamie Jackson of The Guardian confirmed that Onana did not travel with the squad to Newcastle.
In his place, Turkish international Altay Bayındır will start, marking a major opportunity for the summer signing to prove himself in goal.
Onana is expected to return for the second leg of the Europa League tie on Thursday.
