A Chief Magistrate Court in Ifo, Ogun State, has sentenced popular Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, to three months imprisonment for assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. However, the court gave him an option of a N30,000 fine in place of the jail term.
The case stemmed from a 2022 incident in Okeosa, Ilogbo, during which Portable was accused of conspiring to assault, physically attacking an officer, and stealing studio equipment, including a Yamaha H55 studio monitor and an AKG P420 condenser microphone.
The court found him guilty under Sections 517, 351, 383, 384, and 390 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006. The singer received a one-month sentence with a N10,000 fine option for the assault and a two-month sentence with a N20,000 fine option for theft and obstruction.
Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo delivered the ruling, emphasizing that Portable’s actions were unlawful and punishable under the law.
