The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced the revocation of the appointments of three traditional rulers in the Edo North Senatorial District, citing violations of customary laws and concerns over security.
The affected monarchs are:
-
Alhaji Umoru Inusa Umoru, formerly recognized as the Aidenogie of South Ibie in Etsako West Local Government Area. His appointment was revoked on the grounds that the stool was never vacant prior to his installation. He has been replaced by Aliyu Kelvin Danesi.
-
Lukman Akemokue, the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella in Etsako East, was removed for alleged violations of customary succession practices in the community.
-
Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor, the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom, Agenebode, also in Etsako East, was deposed over alleged complicity in issues relating to kidnapping and general insecurity within his domain.
The state government has initiated fresh selection processes for the Okpella and Uwano traditional stools in accordance with established customs and legal frameworks.
In a statement issued by the Office of the Governor, residents were urged to remain calm and law-abiding as the government works to restore order and uphold the dignity of traditional institutions. The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting peace, justice, and unity across the state.
