Kaduna Boy Loses Legs After Severe Abuse by Father and Stepmother

In a deeply troubling incident, the Kaduna State Government has rescued a 7-year-old boy, Abubakar Sani, who reportedly suffered life-altering abuse at the hands of his father and stepmother in Lere Local Government Area.

According to Rabi Salisu, the Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, the young boy’s legs were tied and scalded with hot water as punishment for allegedly stealing biscuits. He was also locked in a room for over 20 days without adequate food.

By the time the case was reported to the ministry, Abubakar's legs were severely infected and had begun to decay, necessitating a double amputation to save his life.

The police have arrested the boy’s father, Sani Tanimi Maishago, and his wife. They will face prosecution once investigations conclude.

Commissioner Salisu condemned the incident, affirming the government’s zero-tolerance stance on child abuse and pledging full legal action to ensure justice is served. The Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital's Chief Medical Director, Abdulkadir Musa, added that the boy would require prosthetic limbs to support his recovery and future mobility.

The Kaduna State Government has reiterated its commitment to protecting the rights and wellbeing of all children across the state.
