In a major political development that may reshape Rivers State’s political landscape, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has met with his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in a bid to reconcile their long-standing rift.
According to political analyst Obiarukwe Ndukwe, who disclosed the development during an interview with TVC News, Governor Fubara did not attend the meeting alone. He was accompanied by key political figures including the Governor of Ebonyi State, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, and former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba. The high-profile meeting reportedly took place at Wike’s private residence.
“Fubara did not go alone to meet with Wike,” Ndukwe said. “He went with Governor of Ebonyi State, Governor Dapo Abiodun, and Olusegun Osoba. They took him to Wike’s house. When he got in, he walked straight into Wike’s living room — a familiar terrain for him.”
Ndukwe noted that Governor Fubara’s ease and familiarity within Wike’s home was symbolic of their once-strong political alliance, which had been strained in recent times due to political disagreements.
This meeting comes on the heels of President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, amid escalating political tension. The renewed peace initiative, brokered by respected elders and political allies, is seen as a critical step toward restoring political stability in the state.
Observers say Fubara’s decision to pursue dialogue rather than prolong the political feud signals a potential turning point for the state’s governance. If the reconciliation succeeds, it could pave the way for unity and redirect attention toward development and stability in Rivers State.
