The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has seized and destroyed 151 cartons of alcohol along with 18 jerrycans of methylene chloride, commonly known locally as Madarar Sukurdai, in various parts of the state.
The action aligns with the state’s legal and Islamic provisions, which strictly prohibit the sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages and other intoxicating substances.
This was disclosed on Wednesday by the Chairman of the Hisbah Commission, Yahuza Abubakar, who emphasized the commission’s continued enforcement of moral and religious standards across Yobe.
In addition to the destruction, Abubakar noted that the commission successfully mediated and resolved 565 civil cases over the past year. These included issues such as:
- Family disputes
- Business disagreements
- Inheritance conflicts
- Community clashes
- Unpaid rent problems
- Farmer-herder disputes
- Various forms of debt
He explained that most of these issues were resolved amicably through reconciliation and mutual understanding.
