HAPPENING NOW!! Massive Shake-Up Rocks NNPC, Over 200 Officials, Obioma Abangwu Others, Others Appointed

In a bold restructuring move, NNPC CEO Bayo Ojulari has sacked over 200 staff, including prominent figures such as Bala Wunti, former NAPIMS head, and Lawal Sade, chief compliance officer. Ibrahim Onoja, MD of Port Harcourt Refinery, was also removed.

Ojulari, appointed on April 4, 2025, is said to be driving reforms that promote inclusivity, especially for women and minority groups. Maryamu Idris was named Managing Director of Trading, replacing Lawal Sade, and will now oversee crude oil transactions. In another key appointment, Obioma Abangwu was made Chief Liaison Officer for the NNPC Management Board.

Sources within the corporation indicated that the restructuring aims to refresh leadership and improve performance across departments. Some insiders praised the move, stating it will open up new opportunities for underrepresented groups within the organization.

No official statement has yet been released by the NNPC’s corporate communications unit in response to media inquiries.

Mr. Bayo Ojulari, a former top executive at Shell, was appointed by President Bola Tinubu to succeed Mele Kyari, who led the national oil company for five years.
