In a bid to uncover the truth behind the recent killings of hunters in Uromi, Edo State, both the Edo State Government and the Federal Government have joined forces to establish a fact-finding committee. This was revealed by Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, during a meeting with a high-level delegation from Kano State, led by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, on Thursday at the Government House in Benin City.
Governor Okpebholo, clearly moved by the tragedy, shared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had expressed his strong dismay over the killings and is determined to see that those responsible are brought to justice. The Governor emphasized that the incident in Uromi has shed light on critical issues that need addressing, and both the Edo State and Federal Governments are committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens.
"This incident has opened our eyes to a number of things, and we are fully prepared to confront these issues head-on," said Governor Okpebholo. "The President is deeply upset about what happened, and he wants to ensure that the investigation is thorough and transparent. The Federal and State Governments are both dedicated to finding the root cause of the killings and putting measures in place to prevent such incidents in the future."
The Governor also assured that the investigation will be carried out with full transparency, and that the findings will be shared with the public. “We want the people to know what we are doing to resolve this and ensure justice is served. Edo State is known for its peace-loving nature, and we want everyone, regardless of their background, to feel safe here,” he added.
Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, expressed his appreciation for the peaceful steps taken by Governor Okpebholo when he visited Kano State following the incident. Gwarzo emphasized the importance of justice, sharing that Kano State had already set up a committee to verify the identities and details of the victims, which included 16 individuals from five local government areas in Kano State.
"We are here to submit our report, which includes the names and next of kin of the victims, as well as those who survived the attack. Justice must be served, and we trust that with the Governor’s commitment, this matter will be handled transparently and fairly," Gwarzo stated.
The visit was attended by key figures from both Edo and Kano States, including Edo State Deputy Governor Hon. Dennis Idahosa, Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, heads of security agencies, and other senior officials.
After the meeting, Governor Okpebholo and the Kano delegation visited Uromi to meet with members of the Hausa community, further reinforcing the commitment of both states to maintaining peace and unity.
The efforts to find justice for the victims of the Uromi killings reflect the strong resolve of both state and federal governments to ensure that no one is left behind in the quest for a safer and more secure nation.
