BREAKING!! PDP Governor Quietly Joins APC, Says PDP is Like a Faulty Aircraft– Sources
In a move that has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s political landscape, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has reportedly defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to sources within the political circle who pleaded anonymity.
The revelation comes on the heels of the governor's controversial comments during a town square meeting with Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal constituency on Tuesday at QIC Central School, Ikot Akpankuk, where he openly likened the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to a faulty aircraft, suggesting that he may no longer see the party as a viable platform for delivering good governance.
“What Akwa Ibom people want is good governance, not the name of the party,” the governor declared. “If you wanted to travel with Ibom Airline, and on the verge of taking off, it developed a fault that won’t enable it to fly, won’t you board the next available plane to take you to your destination?”
He added pointedly: “Whether Ibom Air or Air Peace, board the flight that is ready to take you to your destination. Board the flight and forget the name of the airline.”
While the governor stopped short of publicly announcing a defection, insiders close to the matter disclosed that Governor Eno has already sealed a quiet deal with the APC leadership, following weeks of closed-door consultations. The source further revealed that the governor is biding his time to make a formal declaration, possibly ahead of a major political realignment in the South-South zone.
This development comes as the PDP continues to reel from high-profile defections, the latest being Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who officially dumped the party for the APC earlier this week with his supporters.
Governor Eno also used the occasion to distribute “empowerment packages” to over 400 constituents, including vehicles and business grants — a gesture seen by analysts as a strategic move to consolidate grassroots support ahead of his expected formal switch.
Meanwhile, the PDP’s national leadership is in emergency mode. On Monday, the party's National Working Committee (NWC) met in Abuja to discuss the spate of defections and directed its legal team to take action against members crossing to the APC, including Oborevwori.
As the 2027 elections approach, political observers believe that Governor Eno's silent defection could trigger a domino effect in the region, further weakening the PDP's foothold in the South-South.
