A fresh wave of political realignments may be underway in Osun State, as Mercy Ayodele, a board member at the Obokun Local Government Education Authority, has resigned her position, citing personal reasons in a letter seen by Dtruth Insights on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
Although the letter, addressed to the Chairperson of the Education Authority in Ibokun, appeared courteous and professional, political observers believe it signals deeper unrest within the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration. Ayodele expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve and the experience gained, but emphasized that the time had come for her to step aside.
However, sources close to the development have alleged that Ayodele’s resignation is not unconnected to mounting dissatisfaction with the PDP-led government and that she may have aligned with the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) — a move that reflects the quiet but steady political shifts ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Confirming these suspicions, Hon. Oluwole Oke, the federal lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency — who recently dumped the PDP for the APC — took to his Facebook page to declare that Ayodele’s resignation is just the beginning.
“More of Osun State PDP-led government appointees will resign,” he boasted. “We are baking more fresh and new leaders... Obokun–Oriade is for PBAT, Obokun–Oriade is for APC, Obokun–Oriade is for us.”
Oke’s bold assertion is viewed as a veiled confirmation of ongoing high-level negotiations that could see several other appointees and grassroots leaders abandoning the PDP for the APC in the coming months.
While Governor Adeleke has not officially reacted to the resignation, political analysts believe his silence may reflect growing internal concerns over the loyalty of key allies, especially within the Ife-Ijesa axis.
Insiders also hinted that Governor Adeleke may be under pressure to realign politically, amid whispers of backchannel talks between him and influential APC figures, including a recent, controversial visit to APC chieftain Chief Bisi Akande, which Adeleke later described as "personal."
As the 2026 governorship election approaches, Osun State appears set for a fierce political battle, with realignments already reshaping the state’s political terrain.
