Breaking News! Nigeria Police Force Re-introduces Digital Tinted Glass Permit System, Gives New Guidelines

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the reactivation of the Tinted Glass Permit (TGP) issuance nationwide through a digital platform accessible at possap.gov.ng. This initiative, directed by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, comes in response to public complaints about the harassment of motorists with tinted windows and the need for a transparent process for vehicles with factory-fitted tinted glass.

Reasons for Reactivation
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the reintroduction of the TGP system aims to curb the misuse of tinted vehicles for criminal activities such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and scams. Tinted windows hinder police visibility, obstructing law enforcement operations. The new system is designed to identify legitimate users—including individuals with medical needs and security personnel—while preventing criminal exploitation.

Application Process
Applicants can now apply for permits online. The process includes identity verification via the National Identification Number (NIN) and Tax Identification Number (TIN), biometric capture, and background checks. The permits will be issued digitally with QR codes, and the processing time is approximately 72 hours.

Enforcement
A 30-day grace period starting May 1, 2025, has been granted for motorists to comply with the new regulations. After this period, enforcement will commence. The IGP also warned that any officer engaging in unprofessional conduct during enforcement will face disciplinary actions.

IGP Egbetokun emphasized the Force’s commitment to technology-driven policing and called for public cooperation to ensure safer roads and improved national security.
