The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Nwobo Williams Chibuike, a suspected land scammer, for allegedly selling non-existent plots of land in prime areas of Abuja.
According to an official statement from the EFCC, Chibuike operated under multiple aliases and fake real estate companies, including C&C Reality & Construction Limited, Dream-Krest Homes and Properties Limited, and Dan Faith Shelters Limited.
The suspect allegedly defrauded numerous unsuspecting Nigerians by offering plots in districts such as Kurudu, Sabon Lugbe East Extension, Kpeyegyi, and Jikoyi Village Extension. However, investigations at the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) revealed that these plots do not exist.
Victims were reportedly swindled out of amounts ranging from ₦3.5 million to ₦60 million, with promises of lands in high-demand areas including Karsana, Pyakasa, Jikwoyi, Katampe Extension, Guzape 2, and Kuje.
The EFCC disclosed that Chibuike presented himself as the Managing Director of the fictitious firms and lured victims with forged documents and false guarantees of land ownership.
“The suspect will be charged in court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the EFCC stated.
The Commission warned Abuja residents and prospective buyers to be cautious, urging them to verify all land transactions with relevant authorities before making payments.
