Dr. Jibril Mustapha, President of the Nigeria Rescue Mission Organisation and former leader of the Buhari Youth Organisation (BYO), has called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement released in Lagos, Mustapha emphasized that Nigeria needs a leader like Jonathan to navigate its current challenges, including insecurity, economic hardship, and unemployment. He described Jonathan as a symbol of integrity, inclusivity, and national unity, qualities he said are urgently needed to restore the country's stability and progress.
Mustapha praised Jonathan’s past leadership style for fostering democracy and prioritizing citizen welfare. He argued that under Jonathan’s leadership, Nigeria could regain its lost international prestige and internal cohesion.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that Jonathan, despite losing his reelection bid to Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, remains eligible to contest again, following a 2022 Federal High Court ruling that retroactive constitutional amendments could not bar him from running.
