Police in Bulawayo are investigating the tragic case of an 18-year-old man who took his own life after being accused of impregnating his cousin.
The incident was confirmed by Bulawayo police acting spokesperson, Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, who identified the deceased as Meluleki Sibanda of Cowdray Park.
According to Msebele, Sibanda’s father confronted him on February 21 over the allegation and promised to settle the matter with other family members and the police.
“On the same day at around 10 pm, the family retired to bed. Early in the morning at around 6 am, the deceased’s father woke up, went outside the house, and discovered that Sibanda was hanging from a mango tree near their gate. He was already dead,” Msebele stated.
The matter was reported to the police, and Sibanda’s body was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.
Meanwhile, Msebele urged parents and guardians to handle such sensitive issues cautiously, emphasizing the importance of addressing family disputes without instilling fear in those involved to prevent such tragedies.
